Perhaps the IV fluid infused was D10W (dextrose 10% in water)given to replace insensible fluid loss while a baby is on a radiant warmer for phototherapy. If so, most doctors also monitor baby's electrolytes and give occasional boluses of NS (Normal Saline---.9% NaCl in water) to compensate. Depending on the duration of phototherapy and mom's milk supply, some babies can receive a significant amount of water via IV.
Hope this helps clarify the recent thread whether there was water in baby's IV.
