Beadie asked "I am looking for resources for improving a hospital based  phone counseling service for breastfeeding mothers (families).  The caller can be any mother with breastfeeding concerns and problems."


Although not hospital based, my agency, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Kern County has been providing a "Comfort Line" for breastfeeding mothers through a Prop 10 (tobacco tax) grant since April 2001.

We've received about 4-5 calls (average) daily.  It's available 6am - 10pm seven days a week from a toll-free number for residents of Kern County, California.  It's staffed by Certified Lactation Educators (part of our grant is training thirty CLEs each year too) - that volunteer their time.

Our calls are routed through a Answering Service than then directly connects the caller with the volunteer on call for the day (today happens to be me!).
