If she only needs to be seperated from her baby occasionally, how about just
pumping the day before and putting it in the fridge?  Then she doesn't need to
worry about the freezing.

A thought about the container - could the detergent she uses to wash her dishes
(and I assume whatever she is expressing into or the pump itself perhaps) be
leaving some sort of residue that could be causing the milk to go off?
