Northeast Magazine is the Sunday Magazine printed as a section of the Hartford Courant in Hartford, CT. Today, the letters were printed in response to the Northeast article mentioned in Janice's earlier post. Every single one was personal and positive. This is especially remarkable as the photos accompanying the article were very beautiful and made no effort to be "discreet".
The writing was really quite wonderful, but there were two glaring omissions. As one letter-writer in the paper today said, the only mention of LLL referred to them as a miltitant organization. Secondly, the only bf'ing advocates interviewed were physicians--there was no mention at all of the role of LC's in working with mothers, except when they also happened to be physicians. So, while bf'ing was shown in a very positive light (probably the best I can recall) and the role of docs who are advocates for bf'ing was well-represented, women will be left with the belief that they should and will get bf'ing help from their doctors. Since I live in this state, I can tell you, it is a paltry few docs who can and will be helpful to moms with difficulties. As I was on vacation when the article ran, I did not write a reply--I was hoping another LC would, but noone had.
