Assault on breast-feeding mark in Berkeley
Associated Press
BERKELEY - One of the Guinness Book of World Records' more obscure marks is being targeted by a group of women in Berkeley.
They hope to gather as many as a thousand women to breast-feed in unison on August third.
The current record of 536 women breast-feeding simultaneously in the same place was set in Australia last year.
The gathering of moms and infants will be in the gym at Berkeley High School.
Ellen Sirbu is with the Women, Infant and Children Program for the East Bay, a co-sponsor of the event. She says the idea is to promote breast-feeding for World Breastfeeding Week.
She says so far they've lined up 200 women -- including two with twins -- but expect there will be close to a thousand by the time the feeding begins.
