The rep for Carnation Good Start has visited our hospital a number of times
since I've been on staff (may 2001). We now have Good Start (they make a
dandy little bag- ick - it's black - we got a sample but have never seen one
for moms) We also have Similac and the "new" enfamil. Struggling with all the
fur that's flying with the competetion. Week before WBW (I was at ILCA and on
vacation after that) the Enfamil rep and the Ross rep visited us and did a
staff inservice. Pens, cups and handouts everywhere but subtle. Our biggest
problem is that no one ever asks the LCs what THEY think. The buying/choosing
is done by a secretary without a nursing or health care background. There is
also a new version of the NUK nipple from Ross since they informed me that
the NUK vendor is no longer making the original nipple they "gave" us. The
Ross rep also informs me they don't know about the "AAP" book. I asked them
to get us a copy. I make it a point to hang out and try to hear what they
tell the staff. I get right in there with questions and comments, trying to
kill them with kindness of course.
