<I have a friend who is breastfeeding and recently
diagnosed with hyperthyroidism...has seen an endocrinologist who recommends
a thyroid scan which she must stop breastfeeding for 56 hrs. I believe. >

I wonder if a thyroid scan is necessary for the hyperthyroidism. Perhaps she
has an enlarged thyroid gland that the specialist is worried about.
Certainly if that is the case, she should have the scan. But my
understanding is that a scan is not necessary as a routine for
hyperthyroidism.
I am now thyrotoxic for the third time - and heading for radioactive iodine
next week - but my specialist has not mentioned that i need a scan.
