From what I read it seems the problem started when the baby was started on
complementary foods at age 5 months. Why doesn't she try going back to
exclusive breastfeeding with no other foods and see if it clears up? Moms
think their babies need jarred foods without realizing those are sometimes
50% water, and very nutrient poor. They also sometimes have fillers like
flour or corn starch. I would suggest she just BF for a few more weeks and
then gently reintroduce foods, one at a time and foods that are real. Sweet
potatoes are a good food to start with-easy to fix, nutritious, and the fresh
ones from around here are not sprayed or treated in any way. And what does
baby cereal have in it that can't be found in real foods like potatoes or
grains? I found that moms get hooked by the marketing ploys and think they
have to buy those little jars and boxes. I raised 3 children and never bought
or gave them a single jar or box of baby food or cereal.
My second child refused to try any foods when I tried him at 7 months. He
would spit it out and totally refuse foods of any kind. I just let him be and
let him watch the family eat. He was totally BF for 10 and 1/2 months at
which time he started to eat foods but ate pretty much only Mexican and
Italian foods for the next 8 months. It seemed the spicier foods were the
only ones he would try. He always had the dark circles around his eyes and
stuffy nose so I think he may have developed allergies if we had forced food
on him. He is now 20 and we have found only one thing he is allergic to and
that is red dye--hot dogs, koolaid and pork n beans. ( found these out at
friends birthday parties).
Another thing to look at is if the mom has introduced a bottle or sippy cup
with a nipple type attachment or is using a pacifier, it may be latex
allergies.
