Market research and many public opinion polls as well are not
scientific (evidence based) research. The questions they
ask and the way they get their answers are different. I get
emails all the time asking me to participate in some internet
survey or other (usually political in my case) and telling me
how important it is to participate so that our voices will
be heard. Perhaps because my background is in research, I
have always refused to participate.
In this case, I don't believe that getting LCs and bf supporters
on the research protocol will make any difference. The companies
know the answer they want and will find the right sample in order
to get it.
When the people to whom they quote their "studies" (new moms
and health care providers) start to challenge their
"research" and not buy or promote their products then it will
be in the best interest of the companies to change their tactics.
