This is a one time post intended to educate but not to start a debate on
our list. If you have concerns on this issue, the place to send them is to
[log in to unmask] That is where the concerns should be sent, and we will
continue on with our regularly scheduled clinical discussions. Thank you.

Note for Lactnet
International issues within ILCA
We are very concerned about international issues within ILCA. The proposed
changes to the Bylaws would completely eliminate geographical
representation and with it the international voice within ILCA.
All present candidates of the ballot are US-citizens or residents. If the
Bylaws changes are passed, the ILCA board would - with the exception of one
Canadian - have only US-citizens or residents by 2003. This is a clear
reversal of the increasingly international make-up of the ILCA Board in the
last decade. The IBCLCs in the USA have a legitimate interest in having
their concerns addressed, but these might be better dealt with by a national
Lactation Consultant Association as is done in all other countries/regions
of the world with a large number of IBCLCs.
At stake are the international issues surrounding lactation consultancy
which cannot receive adequate attention with such a strong US-focus. ILCA
needs strong international dialogue and representation if there is to be the
broad-based input necessary for it to speak credibly with an international
voice.
If you are interested in these issues please request the draft of a letter
to the ILCA Board being prepared by an international group of IBCLCs and
ILCA members from [log in to unmask]
