Lipil is costly because of the research and development involved in
genetically engineering a substance to imitate DHA and AA in human milk.
Infant formula is not just cow's milk with a dab of vitamins or soybean milk
with a dab of vitamins.

More and more ingredients placed in infant formula are genetically
engineered. For instance the new fat that is supposedly an imitation of
human milk fat--Betapol.
Betapol is in Omneo Comfort 1 (Cow & Gate-Nutricia) in Europe. This
imitiation fat is made by genetic engineering.

see: http://www.bats.ch/abstr/table7.htm
" Betapol has a high content of triglycerides with palmitate at the
beta-position (sn2). This was achieved by using an (apparently GMO-derived)
Lipase"

Imitation of human milk is a fine art and the consumer will pay for it--in
more ways than one. The information about human milk components is in the
hands of companies like Nestle, Mead Johnson, Unilever (Betapol), Ross, etc.
Information that would encourage more breastfeeding is suppressed. While
information that is supportive of their formulas is encouraged. It is one of
the reasons behind the disasterous health care policies on hiv/aids and
breastfeeding in the developed nations as well as the absolute travesty that
is going on in Africa.
