CQI is continuous quality improvement. Some organizations call it IOP,
improved operational performance. It's a new twist on the old Deming
philosophy of "TQM" or total quality management. These are measurements that
an organization uses to assure that the standard of operations is maintained
and improved. For instance, my partner and I are working on an IOP with the
nursery on hyperbilirubinemia (how many kids were breast fed and how it went)
and our own Lactation "measurement" is looking back at whether or not babies
went to breast in the first hour. This helps us "fight the fight" to maintain
this standard of care and buy some time in the yearly Education Day for OB
nurses. See, my few years in business school and in the management hierarchy
occasionally come in handy.
