Chelated iron is better absorbed by the body than other types. When I
was PG with my second child I took blackstrap molasses in tablet form to
raise my iron levels and it worked well. Some midwifes also recommend
taking chlorophyll, which can be bought in capsule or liquid form, to
help with iron absorption.
