In addition to the helpful advice to scan for viruses regularly, I'd
also strongly suggest that if you must use *certain programs that are
distributed with one particular operating system*, that you turn off
your preview pane. Some trojans and viruses are written in such a way
that they can deliver their payload even if only previewed since these
*certain mail clients distributed as part of that operating system* can
execute code in previewed messages. Other mail clients, like Pegasus
for instance, will not allow this.
It might be worth a little hassle to learn a new mail client that isn't
a bullseye for blackhat hackers.
