Actually the reason for doing either is the same - wake the baby to get the
baby to take a full meal.  It's the taking the baby off the breast to rouse
the baby that's important.  At this point I would opt to put the baby back on
the same breast unless the baby is coming off the breast while awake and
alert. (which wasn't what you asked about).
