It depends on what works.  If baby sucks well for a few minutes and goes
to sleep, super switch nursing is likely to work.  If baby goes to sleep
immediately at breast, he is not really eating, and needs more
intervention to teach him to latch more deeply and start sucking.
Babies who are out of resources (lacking too many calories to have
enough energy to wake up and eat) need to be fed some expressed
colostrum or milk to perk them up.  I like spoon feeding hand expressed
colostrum, or fingerfeeding expressed milk if mom is already producing
larger amounts, either can be done safely with a sleepy baby.  Then wait
a few minutes, and often the baby wakes and can nurse.

For babies who are feeding well, the recommendation to finish the first
breast before switching stands.
