Looking for some advise. Mom has given permission to post this question so
here goes.
I'm working with a BF 2month old and experienced BF mom ( third baby) never
before had problems with other children. Mom is complaining of significant
nipple pain ( 6 out of 10) since birth and plans to quit BF during the next
month if we can't change this. Great latch, good palate, teat is well
formed, no damage or redness. But very ,very painful after nursing for at
least 30 minutes. No vasospasms noted. Treated both with gentian just to
r/o yeast and used Pat G's yeast protocol- no change. Am also trying having
mom gently rinse nipples after nursing with clear water and applying a
small amount of mylanta to nipples just prior to nursing- this has helped
some ( still early days) Mom still needs to pump and feed EBM every third
feed to keep from screaming at this point but she had totally stopped all
at breast nursings prior to our last visit. She's sad to be concidering
weaning at this point but not willing to pump for feedings for a prolonged
time if we cannot correct this.
Has anyone every had experiences like this? It's almost appearing that babe
has a type of "caustic" saliva...sounds weird but thats why I'm trying the
rinse and mylanta trick....
Any ideas?
