I contacted Medela's customer service dept. about the pumps and here's the
less-than-satisfactory response I got. Their new "Policy" specifically
leaves out the original PNS and concentrates on the newer, more expensive
versions.
I sent them a new message last week about the continued blatant violations
of their pricing policy with regard to the PNS Traveler, but have heard
nothing yet.
The Lactnetter who astutely pointed out that Medela's business is to sell
pumps is on the right track, I think. There is absolutely no incentive for
Medela to uphold their own pricing policy because to do so would probably
affect their bottom line. Please forgive my cynicism.

Sara,
Thank you for your inquiry. The retailers selling Medela products are
independently owned and operated and set their own policies and pricing. As
with most products, you will find different price points based on the level
of service offered by the retailer. On the original Pump In Style, Medela
has a suggested retail price of $309.95. For the Traveler and Companion,
Medela has a suggested retail price of $329.95.
