Cindy and anyone who wants to know more, here are some tidbits you can read
in addition to Heather's firsthand experience with the book causing
problems.

Another review: <<Again, a book with a lot of text but only a handful of
illustrations. I think this book was written to put you off the whole idea
of breastfeeding! In the first chapter she suggests a whole list of
equipment needed to breastfeed ... breastpump, nipple shields, breast shells
and even formula ... which no doubt you would need by the time you finished
reading the book! She also suggests using Kamillosan cream for soreness -
this is definitely NOT recommended as it contains peanut oil which could
prove dangerous to baby. The author states that women with delicate nipples
may be prone to soreness, which is untrue - soreness is usually caused by
incorrect positioning or latching-on. Putting a newborn baby in a separate
room, and introducing a bottle in the first 3 weeks are also some of the
suggestions in this book. These are in fact the the exact ingredients for
setting up a whole range of difficulties! This book should be given a wide
berth! >>

Includes these gems:
<<The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) recommends feeding on demand. But this
causes problems for mothers - a baby can cry for a million reasons, not just
because he or she is hungry.

Clare says mothers should aim to feed every three hours and it's a mistake
to put a baby to breast every time it squeaks - as this can tire him or her
out.

She thinks life, as far as possible, should return to normal after a baby.
She doesn't mean pretend the baby isn't there - but says you should still go
out, see people and do things.>>

Detailed negative review ends with "In my opinion, this book has been
written to appease the guilt of Mothers who half heartedly try to breastfeed
but are looking for reasons to give up. They need look no further than this
book. After all, if you follow its advice, you need to give up breastfeeding
if you have food poisoning, return to work, have inverted nipples, or don't
want to risk your baby preferring your nice, warm, comforting breast to a
hard bottle and nasty plastic teat"

to prove you're the perfect mother
by making your baby wait until four months if she's clearly desperate for
food before that.")

"As a general rule, most health professionals would say that a baby who is
breastfed until the time he begins eating solids (at approximately four
months) has been given a very good start in life. If there is a strong
family history of allergies, try to breastfeed for at least six months to a
year."

why you should "give breastfeeding a try"

Well, there's more, but you no doubt get the idea. :-/
