Sorry I cannot remember who was asking about this and whether this will be
helpful of not. There is a US patent, # 6066469, calle "Cloning, expression &
uses of human lactoferrin," that states that one of the many uses of human
lactoferrin is as a treatment for burns.

"Lactoferrin can be used as an antiseptic in accordance with the present
invention to treat accidental scratches or burns. For example, lactoferrin
is applied over the affected area in the form of a 0.1-2 weight %, preferably
0.1-1 weight % solution, or such a solution is used to impregnate a Band-Aid
type bandage with lactoferrin."

It also says that lactoferrin can treat and prevent opportunistic bacterial,
viral and fungal infections. It will also be used to treat pneumonia, AIDS,
candidiasis, diarrhea and neonatal sepsis. We have various companies that
have formed to produce and market human lactoferrin (recombinant version).
The reason why I question some of our "evidenced-based" health care policies
that discourage breastfeeding for hiv/aids or for our smallest of premies.
The lactoferrin industry according to government and market reports
supposedly has a potential of being a billion dollar industry. Funny how
they never mention in any depth that human lactoferrin is a component in
human milk. I guess its better we put human lactoferrin on band-aids or in
tablets, or in cans of infant formula--better for this industry not for women
and babies.
