I had suggested placing the blanket on baby's back to facilitate
skin-to-skin holding. I have had moms nurse with it in place. It wraps
around and there is a thick "hose" connecting to the machine. While the
instructions indicate placing it so the hose comes from baby's side,
this is not critical. By wrapping it so the hose comes from the
direction of baby's back, mom can nurse in football or cross-cradle
without having to remove the blanket. If baby is a business-like "eager
beaver" nurser who polishes off a meal in 5-10 minutes without pausing,
having the blanket off for feeds isn't a big deal. On the other hand,
if baby is more of a "gourmet" feeder, stopping to savor each "course",
the same size meal will take a lot longer. In this case, concerns may
be raised about having the blanket off for long periods. By nursing
with the blanket in place, mom doesn't have to worry about satisfying
the "time rules". (This isn't intended to start a debate on whether
those time rules are appropriate or not, simply a way to meet tham and
still nurse in baby's preferred style.)
