I missed the Oprah show, but was curious about the breastfeeding connection.
I found this on the CBC news website:

"Nigerian court upholds stoning of single mother
Last Updated Mon, 19 Aug 2002 13:21:52
FUNTUA, NIGERIA - An Islamic court in Nigeria has upheld a sentence of death
by stoning for a single mother who had sex outside of marriage.
A lower court sentenced Amina Lawal Kurami in March after she gave birth to
a baby girl more than nine months after getting a divorce.
The high court rejected her appeal on Monday.
The judge delayed the stoning until Kurami can finish breastfeeding her
child. That should be sometime in 2004."
So it looks like the Nigerian courts respect breastfeeding is impartant and
continues for at least 2 years or more (I'm not sure when the baby was born)
