I worked with a mom last week, latch looked good (2 month old baby), baby sucking and swallowing, but mom reported sore nipples and especially sore and swollen areola towards inner part of both areolas. Mom nursing with assymetrical latch using cradle hold. Mom reports tender Montgomery glands. One nipple looks fine. The other is rather assymetrically shaped, four times the size of the other nipple and pointed very much away from her body (left nipple pointed towards the leftt). The nipples are like that before a feed. We tried the football hold on that left side. Mom reported improvement, but still some soreness. Also, mom having a hard time nursing comfortably lying down. Should I tweak the latch in any particular way? Would other, more unusual positions be helpful? Any other suggestions any of you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
