A situation came up in my childbirth class tonight that
I hope someone (or someones) here on lactnet have experience
with. The expectant mom has given me permission to post
this:
Since adolescence she has had scabs that appear on her
nipples. They are painless, except when they fall off,
when it hurts. They come and go. She has asked doctors about
it repeatedly over the last 10 years or so, they all
say not to worry, but they haven't identified what it is.
Now that she is expecting a baby, she is concerned that the
baby might swallow the scabs and worries they might
harm the baby.
Has anyone heard of anything like this before? It just
occured to me to suggest that she consult a dermatologist.
Any other thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Please email privately as well as on the list.
Thanks,
Naomi Bar-Yam
