OK, wise ones, I am venting to the only group of people on earth who can
share my pain and perhaps explain why in the world this is happening.

My third mother in a row, from the same hospital, is now home with a lousy
milk supply. And my third mother in a row is now home with a supplemental
nursing system. And my third mother in a row has ditched the SNS in favor
of a bottle because the SNS is too much trouble. And my third mother in a
row feels like her body, and her breasts, are a miserable failure.

So tell me...how would you know, before a mother's milk even has the chance
to come in, that she needs to go home from the hospital with an SNS? Why
would you suggest to a mother whose milk has not yet come in that she use
the SNS to nourish her baby with formula until the milk comes in? I just
don't understand it.

And tell me...what can I do? I am so frustrated by the stories of the
mothers about what happens in the hospital...nurse says baby needs to eat,
mom says no bottles, nurse says fine, SNS. Where is the science to back
this up? Where does it say that mom's body is incapable of nourishing a
baby for the first 72 hours? Three in a row!

Seriously, for those of you who spend more time doing lactation work than I
do and have more knowledge than I, can you help me understand this? Am I
missing something here? Come to think of it, all three of these births were
less than ideal as well - all with epidural, all 18+ hours, two of the three
were vacuum extractions.

Thanks for any insight you can give, and for easing my frustrations by
giving me a place to share!
