Keri -
Right on the head! I can only wonder if the country with the lowest
breastfeeding rates and the highest crime rates - teen pregnancy - suicide -
family therapy needs - dysfunctional relationships - (Insert any societal
ill here ) has any of those things for very non-coincidental reasons.
I am rather indignant about it at times. Who are we as adults to deprive a
baby of what nature has so obviously intended? Who are we as medical
professionals to think that we are better able to feed/nurture and provide
for a baby than nature would have its own parents do? (ok, I'll grant you a
few CPS cases!) Who are we to think that WE have the choice and remove it
from the baby? I understand that in some middle eastern religions that the
baby has a birthright to the mothers milk for 2 years - if only the rest of
the world saw it that way.
Rising cancer rates, rates of diabetes, obesity, breast cancer, parents
killing their own children, children being taken in the night. I can only
wonder...
Part of our responsibility in this world is to create a safe place for women
and children. This is everyones responsibility. Part of creating that safe
place is in breastfeeding and it gives WOMEN the power to just that!
I just can't help but wonder if everyone were breastfed and held and nuzzled
and cuddled for the first two years of their lives what a different world
this might be...
