I need suggestions for a hospital that gives nipple shield to moms and
sends them home using them. These mothers are not being told that baby
needs more frequent weight checks, that pumping will help keep up milk
supply, and aren't told that they should follow up with a lactation
consultant.
Of course, no one from the hospital follows up with them either.

Last week, a mom was using the regular size shield which was way too big
for her and baby-had been using a poor quality pump so supply was low!
Lots of ABM was being used. She didn't come to see me until baby was 3
weeks old.

Since I am the only LC in the area to refer to, I need a tactful way to
tell the hospital that what they are doing is not good practice-these
moms need follow-up---without sounding like advertising (we know it's not
advertising but they don't see it that way) This hospital does give out
my brochure, but I have heard it gets stuffed into bags that are sent
home and the mom isn't aware she has someone to call.
