Thanks so much for the update. It is so wonderful to hear you celebrating
I'm jumping up and down here with you!
I thought that you might be encouraged from a further update from me.
Last time I emailed Xiaoling (my 3.5 yo adopted daughter) was breastfeeding
just at night and only in the sling where she would go to sleep every night.
Her technique was a bit sloppy- I suspect it was a bit difficult for her
however, I was content that that was how things would continue. In the last
couple of weeks things have moved forward again. Xiaoling is now
breastfeeding to sleep in bed with me as I cuddle her to sleep at night (a
positive step since winter is coming up and she weighs 16 kg and
increasing). Her technique has also improved and I can tell that she is much
more comfortable. I suspect that the muscles necessary for breastfeeding
have been built up for this task over the last couple of months. Another
exciting development has been her wanting to comfort feed when she is hurt
or frightened. Some things to look forward to Trish!

PS was reading Breastfeeding and Human Lactation today which includes a
story of an older adopted child that recoils in horror at an attempt at
breastfeeding and concludes that breastfeeding just cannot be. It makes me
sad because this first attempt is exactly what you would expect and is
better viewed as the first in a whole series of baby steps toward
breastfeeding rather than as the end. Who knows what may have eventuated
given time, persistence and love.
> Trish again, with another update on how "relatching with an almost 2 year
> old" is going.
