"As we all know many of these *relatively* infrequent feeders are HUGE
gainers!"
My youngest son was one of those. He weighed 8 lbs, 8 oz and was nearly 22
inches long at birth. I nursed him every 2 - 3 hours during the day (I would
even wake him from naps if necessary), he marathon nursed from 7 - 10 pm in
the evenings and by 3 weeks he was sleeping 6 hour stretches at night and by
5/6 weeks, he was up to 8 hour stretches and it only got longer from there.
This went on every night (except for the marathon nursing) until he was 6
months old. It wasn't a matter of me missing his cues either because we
slept in the same small room. Yes, he was a HUGE gainer. He was hitting 17
lbs by the time he was 9 weeks old. I could practically see him grow from
the beginning of a nursing session to the end of one (he nursed a good 20
minutes on each side). Obviously, I had no supply problems either. Plus, he
wasn't a pacifier user or thumb sucker.
