And let's not forget there is a dose-response relationship between
breastfeeding and many measurable outcomes.  If the mother in the
first paragraph above is giving baby only "some" breastmilk (and
formula for the rest?) then she may not achieve the result she wants.

At least she is going to continue giving her milk for longer than she
had originally planned.  That's good.
