Yes, and when you learn to hand express, it makes "expression at the
breast" (which sounds nicer than "breast compression", doesn't it? --
easier. And vice versa. I think this should be taught at the same time
as the assymetric latch in prenatal classes.
I continue to be amazed at how well expression at the breast can work
with sleepy babies and babies who do not latch well. In the latter case,
I don't know if it is because the baby remembers how to latch when milk
is squeezed into his mouth, or if the gesture of expression readjusts
his latch. No matter. It is a great, non-interventionist suggestion.
