I have worked with 2 moms with slow weight gainers and a decreased supply,
and as soon as they set the alarm for a night feed the supply problems were
solved and the babies' gain took off.
This discussion reminds me of my very different (now pre-teens) babies.
First one - nursery staff wouldn't wake him up because he had only slept 5
hours - and I was bursting (I had Demerol during labour, so I am sure that
had something to do with the sleepy one). I beg to be forgiven - first
babies sometimes seem to be the hospital staff's, not your own.
Second one - slept for 3 months straight. When my milk let down, I would
wake her up and nurse her. Unfortunately that used up her sleep for the
following 9 months ( 3 - 10 minute naps a day until she was a year).
