I think this post didn't make it earlier:
Drs. Magee and Denk in Virginia do early cleft repairs. Dr Denk spoke in
Acapulco last year. Their clinic closes clefts in the early days or weeks,
with excellent results and frequently (usually?) with a rapid initiation of
normal feeding. Lovely to see.
Their website, www.Magee-Denk.com, doesn't do their work justice. There
aren't clear bfing success stories on it, though their nurse said the great
majority go on to bf successfully if mom stays with it through the difficult
stretch up to and immediately after surgery. They see normal feeding within
2-3 weeks of surgery, they say, but babies generally get 1/2 to 2/3 of their
intake normally within a few days post-surgery.
Well worth checking into!!!
