Jennifer,

I'm only a mom (no lactation credentials except my kids), but I'm
wondering - do you think the nurses (or maybe even there's one or two in
particular?) might need some education on the subject? I know at the
hospital where I delivered my daughter, I kept asking if there was something
wrong with her latch and asking, too, for an LC to visit. Time and again I
was told dd's latch was fine - well, it was, but her such was disorganized.
AND THEN, when I called the hospital's LC group (I think I called every day
from day 3 until about day 10), I kept explaining that I thought there was a
problem and I am not kidding you, they kept telling me it was probably fine
since she was latching on. Especially since I'd successfully nursed my
son - I guess everyone thought I knew what I was doing.

On day 12, when dd was still 7 oz shy of her birthweight, I saw a private
practice LC who dx'd a disorganized suck. Took another few weeks before we
were able to get it right.

I don't know how that helps - I guess I just wanted to point out that the
nurses, perhaps, might need some help evaluating and referring... I sure
wish I'd been able to see a hospital LC, because we've had a hard year!

Best of luck,
Natalie ([log in to unmask])
