Australians on the list might be interested in accessing an article in The
Bulletin titled "Breast Practice" 9/4/02. It is a classic case of a story
that at first glance might been seen as promoting breastfeeding but reads to
me as if it is promoting infant formula- talking all about DHA.
The story begins "Breast milk is the best food babies can get" and finishes
"Since Eliot wrote his book, DHA has been added to infant formula in a bid
to boost its brain enhancing qualities. And some women have apparently been
taking DHA supplements to boost the benefit of breastfeeding. Whether or not
these moves are successful is uncertain but it does highlight one key
qualification that applies to the studies cited earlier: the formulas then
are not the same as those available today. Given this, the cost in terms of
a baby's mental development may now be rather less. This should at least
provide some solace for those mothers who, due to the pressures of life,
simply can't breastfeed"
Anyone care to take pot shots at the behind the lines messages in there!!
I just wonder where the author got his info from?
