Margaret Bickmore wonders why BF over 9 months didn't seem to give added
effect in the Danish study which is making such a splash in the media these
days.
One possibility (I am conjecturing now) is that the effect of BF is greatest
during the time of most rapid brain growth. The brain does continue to grow
after 9 months of age, but not as fast as the first 9 months after birth.
So, not BFing the first few months has the most serious consequences, and
BFing for 9 months gives nearly as much gain as BFing for much longer,
because not as much is happening with brain growth thereafter.
