Years ago had a mom in a similar situation, different cause. The nurses in
ICU pumped her breasts, her family helped, she went on to completely BF
baby. She was so happy because she had "lost" the delivery experience.
The ICU staff and our maternity staff thought I was loco on insisting on the
pump "when we don't even know if she'll make it." Besides my faith in mom's
ability to make it, I thought engorged breasts wouldn't help her general
health situation.
It was in the early HIV days and we discussed the significance of 22 pints
of blood and she told me she'd rather BF and if they both became HIV
positive then so be it. (They didn't.) The blood supply is checked better
now days. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
