Can herbal preparations interfere with conventional medications? Yes.
They may increase the potency or do the opposite. Herbs are medicine
and should be treated as such. If the mom is on hypertension
medication, she should seek the advice of a qualified health care
professional - probably an ND or DO or pharmacist/herbalist. I would
never buy herbs in a health food store from an unqualified clerk. BTW,
homeopathy is often thrown in the same pot as herbs. They are two
separate things. Homeopathy is much less risky. She may be able to
treat the hypertension by some lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise
and relaxation. It all depends on her medical history and how high the
bp is.
