I agree with Magda. I find many women see a reduction in pain with oral
nystatin caps ( 2 caps 3 times a day). The response is not as fast as with
fluconazole and they should take it for at least 2 weeks, but I am sure it
is helpful.
Although we are told that nystatin is not well absorbed I have a couple of
articles which have found nystatin was effective in some type of deafness
and some other odd thing I can't remember at this time of night. I have a
feeling that nystatin works in some way we don't understand.
It certainly won't work for everyone, but it's worth trying. For example, I
saw four women with nipple/breast thrush today - 2 of them I suggested
should go straight onto fluconazole (one had weaned first baby at 3 weeks
and was on verge of stopping again, another had severe breast pain) and the
other two I suggested try nystatin for a week first (as less severe
symptoms) - as well as topical treatments, diet, etc.
