Our supervisor has raised the question of safety of gel dressings. (We have
been using them for about 2 years with no problem.) She is basing this on
the 1998 study reportedly saying there was increased risk of bacterial
infections. I have searched the archives from 1998 to the present and there
are lots of individual LCs discussing them, mostly with glowing praise. I,
too, believe they can be very helpful in treating soreness while working on
correcting the original cause.
What I am looking for is whether there has been any published research since
the 1998 one showing that they are safe, when not to use, etc. As much as I
personally value the amount of anecdotal praise for these products, this
person will only heed published research. Also, anything published (except
in literature put out by the companies themselves) stating whether glycerin
or propeline glycol is less likely to contribute to/aggravate infections.

Thanks
Winnie
