I suppose you could pick up a college intro text book, and read that.
  You might also enjoy coming to the American Museum of Natural History
during the Margaret Mead Film Festival, an annual several days long show
of ethnographic films.  I am no longer a member there (quit sending them
money in protest when they excluded infants from "member's family
programs" and they sent me an ignorant reply to my letter of protest) so
I can't tell you when it is, but it should not be hard to find out, bet
they have a website now.
