While working as a BFing Peer Counselor program coordinator at WIC, I found
that schools are reluctant to allow special breaks for pumping. The reason is
that there would be too much instructional time lost ( pumping for 30 min, 2
times a day would mean 20 hrs lost each month) and that would put the
student at risk of exceeding the attendance policy requirements. Our school
system has no special provisions for pregnant or teen parents. I have worked
with some individual students who made arrangements with the school counselor
to go to the office at lunch and pump in the nurse's room.
I have occasionally spoke about bfing in the family life classes. It is
always an interesting discussion. I ask questions mainly, and then discuss
the responses. I ask how you ever seen a baby bf, why would a family choose
to bf, what are some of the challenges they can think of to bfing a baby, (
for the guys in class--what would you think about your girlfriend bfing your
baby), where would you go for bfing information, etc.

I always enjoy the posts from the nursing students from ND and save the
references for my own use so thank you and good luck in your future careers.
