I have been contacted (long distance in another state) by a woman who has
been diagnosed with pregnancy-associated osteoporosis. Mother was having
constant hip pain during pregnancy. She has a 1 week-old baby and is
breastfeeding. Her orthopedist is concerned that the small amount of bone
loss during lactation (he quoted 3-8%) could cause a fracture, and he is
encouraging weaning. I have found only two references to this in the
Archives. Does anyone have any information that might help this mother make
a better informed decision? She has given me permission to post this to the
list.
