I would first consider the probability of transient hypoglycemia. No need
to get blood tests, etc. Just have her have a small protein snack every
single time just before she nurses so that her blood sugar will not drop
during the time she is occupied nursing.
(6-8x or more daily for two continuous days might well readjust her
"insulin thermostat") Nutritionists on the list can probably speak more
knowledgeably about this.
She should avoid caffeine, as it causes rebound hypoglycemia by
stimulating the adrenals which stimulate the liver to release glycogen.
Also reduce or avoid concentrated sweets to avoid rebound.
