It's interesting to read what all the different initials stand for!

I took a course through Healthy Children 2000 Project. It was a week-long
course. I recently had someone ask me about the course and the
certification. I read through the syllabus and gave her the breakdown of
the course-work.

This friend is an LLL Leader. I told her that the background and training
she had as an LLL Leader would serve her well in going through the course
and passing their little exam at the end of the week.

Anyway, I think I've posted in the past before about this course I
took.....It bothered me that here, I was wanting to do a little "prep" for
the IBLCE exam, and for this course, there were people with a wide variety
of experiences. Some were there because their organization wanted them to
get this certification, a few even asked questions about latch-on, and some
even admitted to *never* actually seeing or assisting a baby
latch-on...........I apologize in advance, but to me it seemed that my
certificate was only a pretty piece of paper! We didn't even receive a
score. It was only pass/fail.

The good thing, is the course was excellent--and the training was good--but
for some, that's the sum total of their training!

I enjoyed the course, but as an LLL Leader, it was pretty basic. Hey, I was
an interesting participant, when they brought up tandem-nursing and nursing
an older child, I could share some personal experience. I was the only one
in the room that had nursed longer than two years and tandem-nursed! I knew
more than the instructors about those topics!

I just received the paperwork to "recertify" my CLC certificate. I need to
send in proof that I have had 12 hours of breastfeeding education in the
past two years and $100. I'm not re-certifying for the CLC designation. It
makes no difference now since I am an IBCLC.

Connie Chiavario, CLC, IBCLC
(I actually already *own* the initials, CLC-----C.....onnie L...ee
C...hiavario!    : }
