Having previously worked in a hospital as an LC, and having the very same
problem in our community, I would say to write a nicely worded letter to the
hospital administration. Give references. Don't name names of the moms who
are calling you, but maybe go back and count how many calls per month you
are recieving on this issue.

Also, I am telling the moms who call me with hospital LC complaints to write
the hospital and tell them. If they don't speak up, nothing will change,
and the hospital will only change if it sees the need.

Unfortunately, just like any other profession, some IBCLCs are great and
some not so great. Some hospitals allow "anything" to go on, while others
have higher standards. Some hospitals "reward" employees for inaction,
others expect and reward employees for excellant service.

Kathy Eng, IBCLC
