While I think Pam has hit on 2 reasons that cover a lot of the population,
there are a couple other legitimate reasons I can think of:
1-Mom has had bilateral mastectomies!
2-Mom needs immediate chemotherapy. I have known of a couple cases were mom
put off CA Rx to let the baby come to term and her only chance to survive is
to start immediately after delivery. A bottle baby with a living mom is
better off that a baby with a dead mom.
It's important to remember that even though we may have been in
circumstances similar to one someone else is experiencing, we have never and
never will be that person in that exact situation at that exact time!!!
Let's work to dispel myths and assure that every mom has the info she needs
to make a truly informed choice, and the support to carry out that choice.
This is where we need to concentrate our energies, not placing blame when a
mom doesn't make the choice we think she should have made, no matter how
knowledgeable or pure motivated we may be.
