First of all, thank you to everyone who has written back to me,
just in case I didn't write you a personal mail yet. I wasn't
expecting the volume of help I've received! You're all wonderful.

Winnie, I don't know whether if I have answers to any of your
questions. Here's what I have gathered from my friend's e-mails:

- the child used to try any solid food offered, even if he didn't
eat very much of it. The mother and peditrician have been
concerned for some time that his weight is so low and he seems to
eat so little.
- for the past week he's basically refusing to eat solid food, or
if he does try it he either eats a few mouthfuls and then starts
to chew it and spits it out, or just spits it out altogether the
second it hits his tongue
- he asks for food, actually takes it out of the fridge and hands
it to his mother, and then he doesn't eat it
- the pediatrician said that she doesn't suspect CF because CF
kids tend to have large stomachs which this child doesn't. They
have an appointment to go for a sweat test to rule out Celiac.
- last Tuesday (Jan 22) he was admitted overnight to the hospital
with an ear infection, a throat infection, a cold, stomach flu, a
fever and the resulting dehydration.
- he now seems better; he's been out of hospital for over a week
and acting fine for most of that - other than the eating
- his mother was diagnosed with strep throat on Sunday, Jan 27th.
I don't know whether the child has been tested for same.
- neither parent is overweight, and I'd say the mother is quite
slim.

I think it's entirely possible the poor kid is just sick or
teething, and the pediatrician is covering her ass to avoid
getting blamed for anything by going with the most conservative
advice.

Thanks again for all the advice. I think I'll be able to reassure
her about the nursing now.

Also, I'd like to apologize for asking a question here although
I'm not a nursing professional; I didn't notice that lactnet had
sent me posting guidelines forbidding this, until after I had
already posted. Sorry.
