I have found from personal experience and the experience of others that
pumping can cause plugged ducts. I have also found that the best way to take
care of them is to get into a hot shower and let the water spray down on the
affected area for about 5 minutes 4x a day. The mother should gently massage
toward the nipple and nurse when she gets out.
