Ann,
It is true that most moms can produce enough for twins so that theoretically there should be enough for one baby at one breast. BUT, we are talking about initiating breastfeeding and not about an established milk supply. I think there is a big difference. I agree with you and also put it across as the main meal and dessert! I think that it appropriate because we don't always have dessert. (Altho' most of us WOULD like to.!)
Also, I believe there are NO blanket recommendations but if there is a problem, like failure to gain weight then the mom should change her tactics! I agree that if it isn't broken, you don't fix it. BUT......IF YOU ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU ALWAYS DID, YOU ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU ALWAYS GOT. (You should hear how that sounds in HEBREW!!)
